Willamette Valley Rosé of Pinot Noir 2018 Willamette Valley Rosé of Pinot Noir

Appellation : Willamette Valley AVA
Case Production : 175
Vineyard Sources : La Cantera Vineyard (Chehalem Mountains AVA)

Vinification : For our direct press rosé, the dedicated Pinot Noir grapes are picked at lower ripeness than would be suitable for a red wine. Often among the first fruit in the building at the start of harvest, the fruit is pressed whole cluster, the juice settled overnight, then racked and fermented in barrel to enhance texture. The wine is fermented dry but prevented from going through secondary malolactic fermentation (ML).

"Opens with bright, forward acidity that eases on the mid palate with rich flavors of strawberry and cream. The 2018 offers a complex, delineated palate that balances citrus, wild berries, chalky minerality and just the right amount of weight and fleshiness." -Michael Lundeen, Winemaker

2017

Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2017 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

Appellation : Willamette Valley AVA
Alcohol Content : 13.5%
Case Production : 2,950
Harvest Date : September 21 - November 1, 2017
Vineyard Sources : La Cantera Vineyard (Chehalem Mountains AVA), Sylvia's Vineyard (Eola-Amity Hills AVA), Yamhill Springs Vineyard (Yamhill-Carlton AVA), Four Winds Vineyard (Willamette Valley AVA)

Vintage : 2017 was a departure from the eagerly early previous three vintages. Fruit set was atypically high, and even with moderate thinning, yields were plentiful. A hot, dry summer, that saw only a spot of rain in 90+ days, allowed for nearly uninterrupted ripening resulting in healthy clusters, and beautiful flavor development.

Vinification : Hand-harvested. Grapes were mostly destemmed (15% wholecluster) followed by a 3-5 day soak before fermentation. Fermenters received a combination of pump overs and punch downs over 12-18 days. Gently pressed and settled before going to barrel.

"Lovely early maturity and balance showing in this young wine. Where our 2016 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir was defined by its wildness and forward fruit, the 2017 is characterized by seamless textures and mouthfeel. The fruit profile incorporates dark cherry, wild raspberry and a cranberry-like quality to the acidity. Trace notes of deep mocha aromas build the mid palate. A true Willamette Valley, the 2017 comprises a diverse spectrum of vineyards covering three sub-AVA’s including the Chehalem Mountains, Eola-Amity Hills and Yamhill-Carlton. The unique high-elevation Four Winds vineyard wrapped up our final, and record setting latest Pinot Noir pick on November 1st!" -Michael Lundeen, Winemaker

Juliard Vineyard Riesling 2013 Juliard Vineyard Riesling

Appellation : Dundee Hills AVA
Alcohol Content : 13.2%
Case Production : 110
Harvest Date : October 11, 2013
Harvest Brix : 18.8°
IRF Profile : Medium-dry
Residual Sugar : 1.8%
TA : 8.1
Vineyard : Juliard Vineyard (Dundee Hills AVA) 44 years old.

Vintage : The challenges of the 2013 harvest, brought on by early rains, became something we could embrace in the almost 45 year-old Riesling block of Juliard Vineyard. As the vineyards started drying out post-rain and the famed noble rot of Botrytis cinerea set in, a concentration of grape sugars, acids and minerals resulted, and a unique complexity evolved.

Vinification : Hand harvested into 3 separate lots on the same day determined by the degree of Botrytis present on the clusters. The lots were processed independently –destemmed, crushed, and left to soak on skins for 24 hours before being pressed and cold settled. The juice was racked to individual tanks, inoculated, and cold fermented for 6 weeks until the desired balance was reached. Racking the wine off lees and chilling arrested further fermentation.

Wirtz Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012 Wirtz Vineyard Pinot Noir

Appellation : Willamette Valley AVA
Alcohol Content : 13.4%
Case Production : 72
Harvest Date : October 8, 2012
Bottle Date : September 4, 2013
Vineyard Sources : Wirtz Vineyard (Willamette Valley AVA)

Vineyard : Wirtz Vineyard is one of the oldest vineyards in the Willamette Valley as the oldest vines were planted in 1968. The block of Pinot Noir that make up this bottling was 40-42 years old in 2012. The vineyard is located the northwestern corner of the Willamette Valley AVA, outside of Forest Grove.

Vinification : Hand harvested in the cool of the morning, the grapes were brought to the winery and fully destemmed. After a short cold soak, the wines were warmed to initiate fermentation. After a warm ferment and nearly 20 days on the skins, the wines were gently pressed and sent to barrel. They completed malolactic fermentation in barrel and remained there for a total of 10 months until the wines were racked for bottling.

"While this Pinot is lighter in color it more than compensates with elegance and complexity of aromas. Fascinating mineral notes of granite mingle with dried orange peel, and tea leaves. Allspice and nutmeg give way to aromas of sweet caramel and cherry pie. Very silky harmonious palate from beginning to finish with moderate weight and almost no perceptible tannin. It will continue to get sweeter and more aromatically complex for several years." -Michael Lundeen, Winemaker

The wines were racked to tank for bottling after 15 months in barrel. 1/3 new oak.

"Initially brooding, but given some time this wine yields aromas of black cherry and cola mixed with notes of sweet spices and bramble. The palate is super silky with incredible richness on the mid-palate. The volume is tremendous given its apparent moderate weight and density. Just a long, harmonious finish that is super smooth. This will continue to gain aromatic complexity as well as sweeten with time. Delicious now, but the patience to leave 1-5 years in the cellar will be rewarded." -Michael Lundeen, Winemaker
